I am an avid reader, it is what I choose to do as a form of self care. I love getting lost in different worlds and learning about new cultures and stepping out of my comfort zone.
I have picked a few books to read this summer to help with my job as a tutor as well as my job as a mom to 3 girls. Keep reading to find out what I will be reading this summer, and feel free to join me.

The majority of the students I tutor are in need of some remediation in reading, this book has been widely recommended among reading teachers and tutors and I am excited to dive in and hopefully learn some things to help with my reading instruction.

The Anxious Generation by: Jonathan Haidt: After more than a decade of stability or improvement, the mental health of adolescents plunged in the early 2010s. Rates of depression, anxiety, self-harm, and suicide rose sharply, more than doubling on many measures. Why?
In The Anxious Generation, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt lays out the facts about the epidemic of teen mental illness that hit many countries at the same time. He then investigates the nature of childhood, including why children need play and independent exploration to mature into competent, thriving adults. Haidt shows how the “play-based childhood” began to decline in the 1980s, and how it was finally wiped out by the arrival of the “phone-based childhood” in the early 2010s. This book has been on my radar for a while and has come recommended by several mom friends. I have 1 teenager and 2 other girls who are not far behind her, I freely admit that my girls spend way too much time on their devices and that I am also guilty of that.

This will be reread for me. I first read this book about 4ish years ago and I found it very helpful, but I feel like I need a refresher. Having been someone who has worked in education for the entirety of my adult life, the new school year feels like the new year for me, I chose to read this in August to set myself up for a successful school year.
